Mr Derreck Stevon Jones

Derreck Stevon Jones affectionately known as “King Panda” 34 years young, departed this life and transitioned into his external resting place on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023. Derreck was born on December 21, 1988, in Hampton, Virginia to parents Cheryl Jones and Linwood A Johnson Jr. Derreck attended Newport News Public School System and graduated from Menchville High School in 2007. Derreck loved to cook, his passion came from watching his mother and grandmother in the kitchen over the years. He took his passion and gave it purpose as he decided to enroll in Job Corps and earned his culinary certification. Derreck was employed as a chef in various restaurants and hotels over the years. Derreck was a big guy with an even bigger heart, smile and personality. These attributes paved the way for him to create his own lane in life. That lane directed him to the club. Derreck loved the environment, the people, who became friends and family, and simply the entire vibe. He was a vibe! Derreck was “King Panda”!! A gentle giant, but don’t poke him, lol. In the clubs Derreck wore many hats, he was a DJ, security, confidant and a friend. In family life, Derreck wore many hats as well. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend. Just to highlight a couple of the roles…. Derreck the SON, Cheryl Jones was a single mother and cared for Derreck his entire life on her own. In 2021 when his mom became ill, Derreck stepped all the way up, starting with moving back home to Virginia. He loved her and on her, he provided for her and became her personal nurse giving her care up until her last breath in November 2021. He was truly a gentle giant. Derreck the FATHER, this by far was the proudest title he’s ever carried. In 2013 Olivia was born and he became a dad. She was the joy in his heart, the light in his eyes and his legacy. Then Miesha was born shortly after and his heart grew even bigger, double the daughters, double the love. Derreck leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Teeshia Jones of OH. Daughters, Olivia and Miesha Jones of OH. Father, Lindwood A. Johnson Jr. of Hampton, VA. Sister, DeNeine Jones of Newport News, VA. Brother, Linwood A. Johnson 2nd of Hampton, VA. Maternal grandmother, Annie Jones now of New Haven, CT. Nieces, DeNatra Jones and Devine Shorey and nephew, DeQuane Jones all of Newport News, VA., four close friends, Anthony Lockey, Walter Wynee, Tiara and Raimann and a host of aunts, uncles cousins and friends. Derreck was predeceased by his mother Cheryl Jones, maternal grandfather Charlie Jones and paternal grandparents Alvalee and Linwood Johnson. In the short time on this Earth, Derreck lived a full life on his terms and for that we are grateful. The quality of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time.
