Mr. Leonard Anton Doby

Leonard Anton Doby was born on February 20, 1977, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Gwendolyn Johnson Doby and Melvin Leonard Doby. On September 7, 2025, Leonard peacefully transitioned from this life. Leonard was a proud graduate of Princess Anne High School, Class of 1996. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he served honorably until his discharge in 1998. In 2006, he earned his welding certification and went on to work for BAE Systems for several years, where he excelled in his craft. A lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Leonard also loved music, especially Young Jeezy and Tupac as well as a passion for nice cars. Though a man of few words, he was deeply thoughtful and always made time for conversations with family. He was a loyal friend who valued peace and never took sides during disagreements, embodying fairness and understanding. Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Gwendolyn Johnson Doby; his maternal grandfather, Major Washington; and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Laura Doby. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children, Kajuan Winfield Doby and Schnielle Doby; his father, Melvin Doby (Annie); his sisters, Katrina Doby, Stacie Davis (William), Tanika Doby, Denise Wooten (Reginald), and Kiwanna Santiful (Claude); his maternal grandmother, Vashti Washington and two beloved grandchildren, Malaya and Khyrin. He is also survived by his aunt, Thelma Mabry; uncles, Larry Johnson, Kevin Washington (Theresa), and Lawrence Doby; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Leonard also leaves to treasure his memory his best friend, Kelly Winfield; special brothers in friendship, Corey Wilson, Al Evans, Jermerll Ford, Larry Chapman, Kente Evans, Andre Calhoun, and Claude Miller; one special friend, Tonette Mayo; and bonus daughters, La’Nya Showers, Shanell Mayo, and Aleana Lindo. Kindness, loyalty, and devotion to family and friends were the hallmarks of Leonard’s character. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving him
