Mr. Shawn LaKeith Garfield Sr.

Shawn LaKeith Garfield Sr. was called home to eternal life at 11:53pm on September 18, 2022. Born July 24, 1972 to Doris Leora Garfield and Maize Gilmore Gray in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System where he graduated from Churchland High School, Tidewater Community College, and Columbia Southern University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Project Management. Additionally, he was a man that labored, working at Getty Mart, Cox Communications (twice), the old Ntelos, and the City of Suffolk. Shawn was known for being family oriented and very determined. Whatever he set his mind on doing, he did just that whether you were on board or not. An advocate for so many voiceless people, Shawn was a mentor and motivated several young men in our community. Becoming an liaison for several organizations in the Southeastern Region. He was a pillar of his community and deemed ICONIC by many young men from Jeffry Wilson and the city of Portsmouth. Shawn empowered so many as well as his two sons, whom he encouraged to reach higher than the stars. Achieving more than your mind could register and this lifetime could muster. Shawn leaves to cherish his beautiful wife (Buff or Pretty Girl) Celestine Fitz-Garfield of 22 years (30 years together), two sons Shawn LaKeith Garfield Jr. and Deshawn Cornell Garfield, all of Portsmouth, Virginia, his mother Doris Leora Garfield, father Maize Gilmore Gray, six sisters, Shawnell Lucy Garfield Fentress (Philippe), Paula Filmore, Myrtle Gray, Rita Harris, Nicole Rodgers, and Kim Boomer; five brothers, Rodney Garfield (Dionne) of Texas, Robert Baskerville, Joseph Gray, Maize Baskerville, and Zachary Jones; two sister-in-laws, Annie Prince (Antoine), and Yosheda Valentine, two brother-in-laws, Cornell Fitz and Calvin Fitz, father-in-law, James Cain, some special friends, Anthony Hill, Carl Wallace, Linwood Harris, three Godchildren, Shante Smith, Jada Wallace, and Dav’ron Munford, and a host of family, friends, aunts, uncles, and relatives. He was predeceased in death by his grandmother Lucy Garfield, brother Jamel Mullen, sister Lisa Howard and Mother-in-law Veronica Fitz.
