Mr. Dashawn Tarik Hopkins

Dashawn Tarik Hopkins was born to Andre and Denise Carroll in Norfolk, VA, on June 6, 1996, with his brother, Raekwon Hopkins, already by his side. Dashawn attended Granby Elementary School from kindergarten through fourth grade. During the summer transition from fourth to fifth grade, the family relocated to Mariners Watch. After relocating, he later transferred to Oceanside Elementary School to finish his fifth-grade year. Being the new kid in the neighborhood, Dashawn stayed by his brother’s side from sunup to sundown, as expected. From there, Dashawn ventured off and made his best friends—Jasper, Rodney, and John. There is a funny story about how Dashawn and Jasper became friends. Raekwon got into his first fight while playing football with kids in the neighborhood, and Dashawn was the first to step in and protect his brother. From that moment on, Dashawn was known as his brother’s protector. In fifth grade, Dashawn joined the recreation league basketball team, the “Blue Devils,” with his brother Raekwon on the same team. Dashawn was impressive when it came to sports, both on and off the field. Known for his competitiveness, speed, and determination, he excelled in football and basketball. Dashawn became well known throughout the neighborhood for his talents and was often everyone’s first pick on any team. As Dashawn grew older, he became more active and gained many friends around the neighborhood. Everywhere his brother roamed, Dashawn was by his side, and vice versa. Dashawn later attended Northside Middle School from grades six through eight. While in middle school, Dashawn played on the school’s football team and later joined the wrestling team alongside his brother. Dashawn was not a troublemaker and maintained excellent grades throughout the years. He was well known for his talent on the court and field, as well as his charismatic leadership. Later in life, the family moved to a new neighborhood located miles away from what he was familiar with. Although he expected to attend Granby High School, Dashawn instead attended Booker T. Washington High School and wasted no time joining the JV football team. While attending Booker T. Washington, he met one of his closest friends, Cherry. Throughout his high school years, Dashawn was an outstanding student-athlete who never quit and never stepped away from the field. After graduating high school in 2014, Dashawn took on his first job at Pizza Hut and would often come home with a pizza to share with his brother Raekwon and his best friend, Cherry. Dashawn was a stellar employee and worked at Pizza Hut from 2014 to 2016. Growing up, Dashawn always saw how much his father enjoyed driving trucks and would go to work with him whenever possible. This inspired him to become a truck driver himself. Dashawn did everything necessary to make that dream a reality—and he succeeded. He began working with his father, which was a dream come true, and later ventured off to become independent. From that point on, his life centered around family and driving trucks. Later, Dashawn met his wife, Charell Tabb, and stood by her side as she moved to San Diego, CA. Dashawn leaves to cherish his memories: his mother in father Andre, Denise Carroll , brother Raekwon Hopkins, grandparents Maxin, Doris Hopkins, Dorothy Carroll, wife Charell Tabb-Hopkins, daughter Parris Shields, aunts,uncles and a host of friends
