Ms. Gladys Mae Bishop

I have kept the faith; Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing" 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 Today, we celebrate the life of our Matriarch and Queen Bee, Gladys Mae Bishop. Gladys entered this world on January 17, 1925 and forever changed the lives of her family and her community. She was the daughter of the late Annie and Harry Lee and the sister of the late John Lee and Vernetta Lee. She attended Norfolk City Schools and gave back to that school system by serving as a Cafeteria Manager until her retirement on July 1, 1989. She was a God-fearing woman, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and the most favored role of all, "Nana". To sum it all up, she was Gladys: Genuine and gracious Loving and caring Amusing and quite the comedian Dedicated and faithful Youthful and young at heart Sassy and a spit -fire. Gladys used her gifts and talents to bless her family. She always fed us physically and spiritually. She also served everything with a bit of sass. She spoke her mind and it came from a place of deep love. She had our backs no matter what. She served her community. She was a member of the Lindenwood/Cottage Heights Civic League for many years. She visited and called the sick and shut-in and lifted their spirits with her delicious meals, humor and quick wit. She loved the Lord and First Baptist Bute Street. She served in the Helpers Club, The Gleaners, Missionary Interact, the Soup Kitchen and Seniors In Action. She loved to cook, dance, shop, play games, snack on Goldfish and ice cream. She also loved entertaining family and friends, and traveling. Her celebrated life will be remembered and cherished by Linda Bishop, her daughter; Anita Bishop, granddaughter; Sequoia and Ashley Bishop, great-granddaughters; Keyshawn Brown, great-grandson; Paris Deloatch, great great granddaughter and Kendrick Bishop, great great grandson. Marsha Jones, niece; Mark Jones, great nephew; and Hailey Jones, great great niece. Gladys Bishop was a soldier in the Army of the Lord. She was a prayer warrior, an overcomer, and a survivor. Gladys' latest journey was the best ever as she traveled up the King's Highway with her Lord and Savior. Farewell Queen, wear your crown well as you rest in Heaven. To God be the Glory!
